Sidney Crosby hurt by cross-check to head; Matt Niskanen ejected

Barely five minutes into the first period, Sidney Crosby was hit in the head with a cross-check from Washington defenseman Matt Niskanen. The Pittsburgh captain was cutting across the Capitals’ goal crease and falling to the ice when Niskanen made contact. Crosby was shaken up and needed to be helped off the ice to the Penguins’ locker room for evaluation, where he would remain the rest of the game.

The Predators and Penguins combined for 78 penalty minutes in Game 3, including five game misconducts, before Nashville secured it’s eventual 5-1 win.

With the Penguins holding a 2-1 lead, the Predators host Game 4 of the championship series Monday before the series heads back to Pittsburgh for Game 5 on Thursday.
